Worship The King This Christmas

Christmas is coming! That wonderful time of year when the calendar hits overload and the lists are endless. How do we keep Christ as the focal point of our worship this Christmas? I have to admit I struggle with this every year, but this Christmas I’m determined to worship Christ in the midst of all the hoopla. Here are some ideas that may help:

WORSHIP CREATIVELY: We learned during our 40 Days of Community Campaign that there are as many ways to worship our God as there are personality types. Our God is the God of creativity – we see it in the awesomeness of His handiwork, and we see it in the way He chose to make Himself flesh and come to our hurting world. The Bible teaches us that worship means “to bow down.” Anytime you bow down, or GIVE, your talent, time, love or resources with others with the purpose of bringing honor to God, you are worshipping Him. The opportunities are endless this Christmas season, to reach out in love, using your gifts, to minister to those around you, to the glory of God!

WORSHIP WHOLEHEARTEDLY: Our worship to God does not need to be grand or impressive or even beautiful, but it should be heartfelt and sincere. In Revelation 3:16 God tells us He would rather spew us out of His mouth than have us be lukewarm. He also tells us in Colossians that whatever we do, we should do it with ALL of our hearts! Do whatever it takes to keep the God-fire burning in your heart. Don’t be tempted to let the quiet time slip because you have too many things to do—remember that every day He is waiting in that special place to meet with you. Maybe the holidays would be a good time to get your family together and watch “The Passion of the Christ” again. Our God is passionate about His children and He proved that to us by dying for us while we were still sinners. Don’t give Him leftovers this Christmas – give Him your whole heart.

WORSHIP TOGETHER: What a wonderful time we had last week at the 40 Days of Community Celebration service. There is nothing quite like a community of believers coming together to worship God—that’s they way He planned it. God says in His word that He inhabits the praises of His people. When we worship together He is there. And when He is there, lives are changed and hearts are mended and hurts are healed—AND, maybe most importantly, unbelievers are drawn to Him. Jesus tells us in John 12:32 that as He is lifted up from the earth, He will draw all men unto Himself. As we continue to lift up the name of Jesus in our corporate worship, God will be faithful to His word and draw the lost to Himself. So let’s invite our friends this Christmas season – we’ve nothing to lose and our friends have eternity to gain!
