God’s Restoring Grace!
Should I Be Someplace Else?
Ps 32 5/30/10
Background: While Kings were at war, David was at home.
1) Description of the Forgiven!
Ps 32:1 Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. V2 Blessed is the man whose sin the LORD does not count against him and in whose spirit is no deceit.
A) Pathway to God’s blessing!
1. Confrontation!
2 Sam 12:1 The LORD sent Nathan to David. When he came to him, he said, "There were two men in a certain town, one rich and the other poor. 2. The rich man had a very large number of sheep and cattle, 3. but the poor man had nothing except one little ewe lamb he had bought. He raised it, and it grew up with him and his children. It shared his food, drank from his cup and even slept in his arms. It was like a daughter to him. 4. "Now a traveler came to the rich man, but the rich man refrained from taking one of his own sheep or cattle to prepare a meal for the traveler who had come to him. Instead, he took the ewe lamb that belonged to the poor man and prepared it for the one who had come to him." 5. David burned with anger against the man and said to Nathan, "As surely as the LORD lives, the man who did this deserves to die! 6. He must pay for that lamb four times over, because he did such a thing and had no pity."
V7 Then Nathan said to David, "You are the man!
2. Brokenness!
3. Confession & Repentance! 2 Sam 12:13a Then David said to Nathan, "I have sinned against the LORD
4. Cleansing & Forgiveness! 2 Sam 12:13b Nathan replied, "The LORD has taken away your sin. You are not going to die.
5. Restoration to Fellowship!
6. Restoration to Service! = David never the same again!
Prov 28:13 He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.
2) The Dangers of Denial!
Ps 32:3 When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. V4 For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. Selah
1 Pet 2:24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.
3) Denunciation of Sin!
V5 Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD" and you forgave (even) the guilt of my sin. Selah
4) Deliverance from Sin!
Ps 32: 6 Therefore let everyone who is godly pray to you while you may be found; surely when the mighty waters rise, they will not reach him. V7 You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah
5) Direction follows Deliverance! Change up…
V8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you.
6) Description of the Rebellious! Vv9-10
Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you. V10 Many are the woes of the wicked, but the LORD's unfailing love surrounds the man who trusts in him.
7) Delight in God!
V11 Rejoice in the LORD and be glad, you righteous; sing, all you who are upright in heart!
