Faithfulness to Christ!
The Good Soldier
2 TIM Part 2 1/17/10
-How can I become or remain faithful?
Paul starts with a command to be strong, steadfast…
1) Be Strong!
2 Tim 2:1 You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
2 Cor. 4:16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. V17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. V18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
1Cor 4:2 Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.
2 Tim 2:3 Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No one serving as a soldier gets involved in civilian affairs--he wants to please his commanding officer.
How can I be strong? Example of a soldier!
2) Characteristics of a Good Soldier!
A) He endures hardness!
1. The hardness begins in basic training.
2. The training continues throughout your hitch/ enlistment!
-Sgt James Steward, 21 year old son, brother.
2nd characteristic of a good soldier…
B) He doesn’t involve himself in civilian affairs!
2 Tim 2:3 Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. V4 No one serving as a soldier gets involved in civilian affairs--he wants to please his commanding officer.
1. Why: During battle you can’t afford to be distracted!
Eph 6:10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.
NAS V4 No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life
C) He desires to please his commanding officer!
KJV that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
DEB: Heart: Throne – self or Christ?
Let’s review: How can I be faithful to Christ? What will prevent me from being a casualty, going AWOL?

2. It continues as we grow in God’s Word!
3. Understand there are hardships we need to endure.
4. Don’t entangle ourselves in the affairs of this world.
