John 1:10-13 I. People REJECT Jesus Christ Scripture teaches that MOST people will REJECT Jesus Christ! John 1:10-11 He came into the world, and thought the world was made through Him, the world did not recognize him [did not know Him]. He came to that which belonged to Him [to His own—His domain, creation, things, world], and they who were His own did not receive Him and did not welcome Him. Amplified Why do we REJECT?? 3 REASONS: 1) PRIDE—Rooted in “Who We Are” Proverbs 16:25 There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death. Timothy 3:1-4 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of good, treacherous, rash conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God… 2) PROSPERITY/PLEASURES—Rooted in “What We Have” “DO NOT gather and heap up and store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust and worm consume and destroy, and where thieves break through and steal. But gather and heap up and store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust nor worm consume and destroy, and where thieves do not break through and steal. Matthew 6:19-20 3) PREJUDICE—Rooted in “How We Think” I Corinthians 1:21-23 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles. A major reason why we REJECT Christ is because we expect Jesus Christ to be someone different than what he truly is. How does Jesus Christ respond to People?? People REJECT Jesus Christ II. Jesus Christ RECEIVES People As we BELIEVE on His Name and RECEIVE His Free Gift: 1) ACCEPTANCE IS GUARANTEED John 1:12 …BUT as many as received him (Jesus Christ), to them He gave the right to become children of God… NASB 1 QUESTION: What will you do with JESUS?!? John 6:37 “…WHOEVER comes to me, I will never drive away (cast out).” 2) ADOPTION IS GRANTED I John 3:1 See what an incredible quality of love the Father has given (shown, bestowed on) us, that we should be permitted to be named and called and counted the children of God! And so we are! Amplified Jesus Christ RECEIVES all people, But MOST PEOPLE REJECT Jesus Christ. So the question remains, what will YOU do with Jesus Christ???
